Buy Scooters - Gas-Petrol Or Electric? A Quick Guide

When you buy post delivery scooter, the most important decision you need to make is whether to choose gas / petrol scooters or an electric motor scooter. Your choice will largely depend on what distances you will be travelling, costs, noise etc. We have put together a quick guide to help determine which is best for you.

Travelling:If you want to travel more than 30km then a gas / petrol scooter is best as an electric motor scooter will not allow you to travel much farther without recharging which can take 4-8 hrs.

Terrain:If using your bike off road or on a hilly area, a gas / petrol scooter is best because it is lighter and more powerful than electric.

Costs:Gas / petrol scooters are generally cheaper to buy than electric, but running costs are considerably higher. An electric motor scooter costs only pennies to re-charge, although batteries may need replacing after 2-3 years depending on use.

Maintenance:Electric scooters are much less demanding from a maintenance point of view - they don't have an engine which needs servicing etc.

Noise:Gas / petrol scooters are much noisier than electric. However some people prefer the brrrm sound to the gentle hum. This is a personal matter. Some people prefer the noise from a safety point of view, as this makes them more noticeable on the roads to traffic and pedestrians.

Weight:Electric scooters are heavier to handle and maneuver than gas / petrol. This is mainly due to the weight of the battery. Whichever one you choose - make sure you can manage it safely.

Convenience:This depends on your circumstances. Electric are convenient if you have a garage because you can easily re-charge overnight. Gas / petrol scooters are convenient to refuel quickly at a filling station. If you need to keep your scooter in a hallway at night, an electric scooter is preferable as it won't smell of fuel.

Environmentally friendly:If you are looking to buy scooters which are environmentally friendly then electric motor scooters are best as they do not pollute the atmosphere. However, if you are swapping your car for a gas scooter, then you will still be going some way to helping the planet.

Storage facility: Electric scooters usually have a storage box for a helmet.

Starting your scooter: An electric motor scooter will start up straight away even on cold mornings, while gas / petrol scooter may take some time to warm up.

Re-sale value: Gas / petrol scooters hold their value more than electric scooters - mainly due to new advances in their technology.
